Calling panel participants

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

We have some panels that are a little short of participants. They’ll still run, but more voices and opinions would be great. If any of them interest you, email chair@conflux.org.au Note that Conflux is limiting people to a total of four panels, in order to ensure a multitude of opinions and voices are heard.

  • Beach balls and strobes - cheap but effective special effects.
  • Moving on from mobiles - where to next for technology?
  • Levels 1 to 10 - the role of gaming in developing the genre
  • Scrolling through the story - past, present and future of webpublishing
  • Urban versus paranormal - which romance is which?
  • Telling the future - how divination really works.

Programming

Monday, September 10th, 2007

We’ve started sending out panel invitations. If you’re coming to Conflux and you haven’t heard from us yet, or if you’re coming but we don’t know it yet, then email chair@conflux.org.au so we can see where we can fit you in.

Charity auction

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

Conflux 4 will be holding a charity auction during the convention. Any donations are gratefully recieved. You can leave them at the registration desk, or if you aren’t going to be at the con, mail them to P.O. Box 903, Belconnen ACT 2616 and email chair@conflux.org.au to let us know they’re coming so we can keep an eye for it.

Less than a month to go

Saturday, September 1st, 2007

This time in four weeks, we’ll be sitting down to the first course of the regency gothic banquet. It’s amazing how fast things are happening.

In the past couple of weeks, the souvenir book has been finalised, tshirts have been printed and bookings have started coming in for the workshops.

Next weekend, the timetable for the convention will be available and members who said they were interested in being involved with panels will be told what they’re doing. In other words, its getting close and we’re getting pretty organised.

If you know you’re going to be at the convention, but you haven’t got your membership yet, let me know at chair@conflux.org.au so I can consider you for panels as well.  And if you want to come to regency gothic banquet, make sure you book your tickets - bookings close Sunday September 23.

Conflux Workshops

Monday, August 27th, 2007

There are now a total of 14 workshops, including a worldbuilding workshop with worldbuilder extraordinary and professional cartographer Russell Kirkpatrick and a workshop called “The keys to the Kingdom” by a man who really knows where to find them - Jack Dann. Every workshop goes for two and a half hours and is limited to 15 people (except the longsword workshop - they need even numbers to make pairs, otherwise someone’s going to look really silly, swinging a sword in the air). So get in early to make sure you get your place. Click on the workshops link.

Note that the workshops are only open for members at the moment.

Hotel room booking

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

You can now book rooms online - go to the accommodation link and you’ll find the link. Note that Rydges only has single, twin or Queen bedrooms - if you want to sleep three, you’l need to get a fold-out in a roon, and it’s best in a Queen room. If you’re lucky, you might get a suite. Note that there will be adjustments of prices for these special arrangements, but you’ll find all that out when you book.

The Conflux 4 Mini-con

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

The mini-con finished at midday today, but it’s still up for people to go and look at.

It was loads of fun - there was insight and inspiration, as you normally find at a con, and socialisation and fun as well. We found out some secrets, got some scoops and had a terrific time.

Go have a look (www.conflux.org.au/forum) and don’t forget, the real con itself will be even funner!
